Choosin’ Texas: Why We Love Where We Live in North Texas
Ella Langley has stormed the country music charts with her hit “Choosin’ Texas,” and I can’t get that tune out of my head! There’s just something about it that feels especially fitting when you’ve spent so many years calling Texas home.
And even in the sweltering Texas heat, I’d still choose to live here over just about anywhere else.
I love visiting Arkansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Montana, and so many other beautiful places across the country, but there really is no place like Texas. North Texas has been my home for more than 35 years, and the longer I’m here, the more grateful I am for the life and community we’ve built.
More Than a Place to Live
What makes North Texas special isn’t just a location on a map. It’s the people, the relationships, the traditions, and all those everyday moments that make a place truly feel like home.
Our family, kids, grandkids, friends, neighbors, and business partners have created a community around us that makes our lives incredibly rich. Whether it’s gathering around a table, supporting a local business, attending a community event, or simply running into someone you know around town, there’s a sense of connection here that’s hard to replace.
That connection is a big part of why our Paragon REALTORS® campaign this year has centered around one simple idea:
Love Where You Live.
Throughout the year, we’ve been celebrating the people, places, experiences, and little things that make living in North Texas so special.
Lake Texoma Is One of My Favorite Reasons
If I had to make a list of the things I love most about living here, having Lake Texoma practically in our backyard would be near the top.
Some of my favorite memories are the simplest ones—loading up the boat with my kids, finding a beach and spending a Saturday afternoon on the water. Other times, there’s nothing better than heading out with Andy for a sunset cruise, slowing down for a while, and enjoying the peacefulness of the lake.
It’s easy to forget how special it is to have a place like Lake Texoma so close to home.
Whether you love boating, fishing, camping, swimming, hiking, or simply watching the sun go down over the water, the lake gives us another reason to appreciate where we live. And after a busy week, sometimes a little fresh air, calm water, and good company are exactly what you need.
There’s a Lot to Love About North Texas
Of course, Lake Texoma is only one piece of what makes this area special.
North Texas offers a unique combination of small-town charm, growing communities, local businesses, outdoor recreation, and easy access to everything the Dallas-Fort Worth area has to offer. We can enjoy quieter communities and wide-open spaces while still being within reach of big-city entertainment, dining, shopping, sports, and cultural experiences.
But more than anything, I think it’s the people who make North Texas feel like home.
After more than 35 years here, so many places are tied to memories—raising a family, building friendships, growing a business, celebrating milestones, and watching our communities change and grow.
That’s what “Love Where You Live” means to me. It isn’t about believing your hometown is perfect. It’s about appreciating the people, places, and experiences that make you grateful to call it home.
Now We Want to Hear From You
So, in the spirit of “Choosin’ Texas,” we want to turn the question over to you:
What makes you choose North Texas?
Maybe it’s Lake Texoma. Maybe it’s your favorite local restaurant, a park or trail, Friday night football, a community tradition, your neighbors, the slower pace of your hometown, or simply having family close by.
Margaret and I would love to hear what makes you Love Where You Live. Share your favorite thing about North Texas with us—you might even inspire one of our upcoming campaigns!
Because at the end of the day, home is about so much more than a house.
It’s the life you build around it. And for us, we’re still Choosin’ Texas.
