| Well, the heat and humidity have finally arrived and it looks like the copious amounts of rain we've had are well in our rear view mirror! I love the summer months with the arrival of farmer's markets, fruit & veggie stands, and roadside vendors peddlin' all the wonderful bounty that is grown in our area. The tomatoes, onions, okra, squash, cantaloupe, watermelon, blackberries... oh gosh, and the PEAS!! Glorious peas!! I love blackeyed's, crowder, lady cream.... if it's a pea, I LOVE it! Well now I'm hungry just talking about all this fresh goodness!! On a side note, that reminds me to hound my good buddy Cameron Riddels about his tomatoes.... he usually keeps me supplied with his beautiful reds! This month Margaret and I would like to share with you a wonderful non-profit we have right here in our community of Grayson County: the Child & Family Guidance Center. I recently joined the board in January of this year but have been supportive of this impactful organization for many, many years. The CFGC was founded in 1966 (!) and its mission is to strengthen, improve, and empower the lives of hurting Texoma children and families, through compassionate and restorative mental healthcare. CFGC envisions a future in which all people throughout Texoma, especially those who are low-income, have immediate access to quality mental healthcare at the right time. What an important need in this day and age! Pictured below is myself and Margaret with Kristin Hilson, marketing executive assistant, and the incredible Brenda Hayward, executive director! What a wonderful team of people helping so many in our community. |
